Although the major draw at Universal’s Legendary SDCC booth was the jaeger pilot simulation from PACIFIC RIM, the studio had also quietly put together a teaser for another movie that Guillermo del Toro has been steadily working on: CRIMSON PEAK. All we’ve known so far is that it’s an atmospheric horror film starring Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Doug Jones, and Jim Beaver—and hey, with a cast and a director like that, who needs to know much more? But Legendary thinks we do, and the props and costumes they provided indicate a Victorian period piece complete with bloody handerchiefs, creaky iron gates, and ominous photographs of family history. It also seems clear, due to the number of butterflies and an old book entited HISTORY OF INSECTS, that winged crawlies are going to play an important role. Even “Lucille Sharpe”‘s gown is a glinting blue, as if some dastardly gentlemen cut up a collection of pinned monarchs and made them into a dress. Yikes.
